We are so excited to share this news with you!  After 5 long years of hard work and bruises, RCRD became one of 14 apprentice teams to graduate to full WFTDA member status this week.

Rainy City Roller Dolls Joins Women’s Flat Track Derby Association

Centralia, WA   December 3, 2012
Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) is proud to announce today that the Rainy City Roller Dolls have been accepted as a member of the WFTDA, the national governing body for women’s amateur flat track roller derby in the U.S.

As a new member of the WFTDA, RCRD joins the ranks of over 75 all-female, skater owned and operated leagues nationwide that have united to lead the growing sport of women’s flat track roller derby.  WFTDA member leagues engage in sanctioned interleague play, including regional and national tournaments.  Rainy City will be a Class B member in the west region.

About the WFTDA
Founded in 2004, the WFTDA promotes and fosters the sport of women’s flat track derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability, sportswomanship, and goodwill among member leagues. The governing philosophy is “by the skaters, for the skaters.” Women skaters are primary owners, managers, and operators of each member league and of the association. WFTDA’s operational tasks include setting standards for rules, seasons and safety, and determining guidelines for the national and international athletic competitions of member leagues. All member leagues have a voice in the decision-making process, and agree to comply with the governing body’s policies.  For more information, visit www.wftda.com.

This means that in 2013, our A-team, newly dubbed the Umbrella Corporation, will be facing some awesome teams as they compete for ranking in the western region.  You will not want to miss our home bouts….we’ve posted our 2013 home season schedule below so you can mark your calendars now!!

January 19^th we’ll kick off our season with an intra league bout to benefit the Dino Doozer Fund, an organization that provides activities for kids with cancer.  It will feature two teams made up of Rainy skaters.

We have opportunities for big girls and little girls too!!

Fresh Meat Practice is held every Thursday from 8:00-9:30pm at the Rollerdrome in Centralia.  No experience is necessary!!  First practice is free and we have gear and skates to get you started.  Just show up with a mouthguard and your sense of adventure!! Rainy City Puddle Jumpers Junior Derby program will hold one more practice this year, on Sunday December 9 from 5-7pm at the Rollerdrome.  First practice is FREE, so if you know a girl who is 7-17 that wants to come check out roller derby, this is a great time to do it!!  Information on how to register for the 2013 season will be available on the 9^th, or you can email pjswhatwhat@yahoo.com for more information.

We know that this may cause an inconvenience for some of you, but hopefully not create too much of a hassle! Think of this as a great way to get out of the house, off the computer, and watch a bout to support Rainy City and get your hands on some of our wickedly cool merch. Rainy City Roller Dolls

As a lot of you already know Rainy City is about to enter our fifth season soon! As season four draws to a close there are a lot of exciting things happening.

First of all we have launched our new website rainycityrollerdolls.com at the site you will find bios on many of our skaters as well as merchandise for sale and scheduled information for our 2012 season.

Jr. Derby is now under way! Practices are the 2nd-4th Sundays of the month at 5:00 PM at the Centralia Rollerdrome. Like our adult program, Rainy City’s Jr. Derby program is open to all skill levels. Dues are $20 and we will teach your girls aged 8-17 everything they need to know to be a future flat track star. *Please note* Sunday practices will begin December 11, 2011.

Come out to our Booz-atha-lon at The Paradise in Chehalis Dec. 9, 2011 from 9PM-2AM!! We will be hosting a great party with beer pong, contact musical chairs, leg wrestling, and as always $1 jell-o shots. So come out, have some fun, and get to know your Rainy City Roller Dolls! Proceeds for this fundraiser are going to our new bumper fund!

Are you itching for some action on the track? We Are! And are pleased to announce our first public bout of the 2012 season! An inter-league bout: Rainy City Heroes vs. Rainy City Villains! This event is very dear to our hearts as it is a benefit bout to raise money for The Human Response Network; which is a non-profit group that advocates for victims of violence, domestic violence, and sexual assault in Lewis County. So come on out and show your support for roller derby, The Human Response Network and the Rainy City Roller Dolls!

As the season gets closer stay tuned for more information about our upcoming bouts and public events. Also we are ALWAYS accepting new skaters of every skill level. So join the flat track revolution!!!

We love all of you, and couldn’t do any of this without our loyal fans, our wonderful Refs, NSO’s and Volunteers. Not to mention The Wet Posse! Thank you all for your continued support!!
